WHAT IS A COVER LETTER?
“A cover letter is a one-sided one you submit along with your CV or resume. The cover letter is a short piece of impactful and persuasive writing that must grab the hiring manager's attention and convince them you are the perfect candidate for the job! The cover letter is normally sent by email along with the CV or resume.”
4 things to include in your job application COVER LETTER!
#1. Ensure you include your direct contact telephone number at the bottom of the cover letter immediately after you sign off with your name. It is important to make it super-easy for the hiring manager to contact you so they can invite you along to an interview.
You should also make sure your answerphone message sounds professional. If they call you to invite you along for an interview but you’re unavailable, and they get your answerphone message and it sounds unprofessional, they may change their mind and hang up!
#2. Include the title of the job you are applying for at the top of the cover letter. This tells the hiring manager you are focused on this particular job and not just applying for many different jobs using the same cover letter.
#3. Include in your cover letter the reason why you are applying for the job – this is important. You can say something like this:
“I am applying for this position because the job description perfectly matches my skills, qualities, and knowledge, and it is an industry I am very passionate about.”
#4. And the fourth thing to include in your cover letter is a statement of intent. This tells the hiring manager what you will do in the position if they hire you. You can say this…
“If I succeed in my application, I will perform all my duties to an exemplary standard to quickly become a team member who contributes positively to the organization’s objectives.”
