Installing Debian Linux on VirtualBox within a Windows 11 environment is a great way to explore and learn about Linux without affecting your main operating system. Follow these steps to set up Debian Linux on VirtualBox:
1. Download Debian ISO: Visit the Debian website (https://www.debian.org/) and download the Debian ISO file for your preferred version (e.g., Debian 11 "Bullseye"). Save it to a location on your computer.
2. Install VirtualBox: If you haven't already, download and install Oracle VM VirtualBox (https://www.virtualbox.org/) on your Windows 11 system.
3. Open VirtualBox: Launch VirtualBox from your applications menu.
4. Create a New Virtual Machine:
- Click on the "New" button to create a new virtual machine.
- Enter a name for the virtual machine (e.g., "Debian").
- Select "Linux" as the Type.
- Choose "Debian (64-bit)" as the Version.
5. Allocate Memory: Assign an appropriate amount of memory (RAM) to the virtual machine. A minimum of 1GB is recommended, but more is better for smoother performance.
6. Create a Virtual Hard Disk:
- Choose "Create a virtual hard disk now" and click "Create."
- Select "VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)" as the hard disk file type.
- Choose "Dynamically allocated" for storage.
7. Allocate Disk Space: Set the amount of disk space you want to allocate for the virtual machine. A recommended minimum is 20GB, but adjust based on your needs.
8. Attach Debian ISO:
- In VirtualBox's main window, right-click on your newly created virtual machine and select "Settings."
- In the "Storage" section, click on the empty CD/DVD drive.
- In the Attributes section on the right, click the disc icon next to "Optical Drive," and select "Choose/Create a Disk Image."
- Browse and select the Debian ISO file you downloaded.
9. Start the Virtual Machine:
- Click "OK" in the Settings window.
- Select your Debian virtual machine and click "Start."
- Follow the Debian installation process as prompted. Choose language, location, keyboard layout, root password, and other settings.
10. Install Debian:
- When prompted for installation type, choose "Graphical Install" for an easier setup.
- Follow the installation steps, including creating a non-root user account.
11. Install VirtualBox Guest Additions:
- Once Debian is installed, go to the "Devices" menu in the VirtualBox window.
- Choose "Insert Guest Additions CD Image."
- Open a terminal in Debian and run the installation script located on the CD/DVD.
12. Restart the Virtual Machine: After the installation, restart your Debian virtual machine.
Congratulations! You've successfully installed Debian Linux on VirtualBox within your Windows 11 system.

Note: This guide is based on the current version of VirtualBox and the Debian distribution. VirtualBox and Debian might undergo updates and changes. Always refer to the official documentation for the latest instructions. Virtual machines offer a safe environment to experiment with different operating systems and software.
In this Video I am going to show How to Install Debian 9 (GNU/Linux) "Stretch" GNOME Installation on Oracle VirtualBox. In addition I will show How do I install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Debian 9 so you can resize your Debian 9 guest and also Copy and paste between your debian guest and Windows 10 / Windows 8 / Linux host.
Debian 9 is a 32- and 64-bit Linux distribution for desktop computers, based on either Ubuntu or Linux Mint.
Debian Stretch. It's community based, which means that any Linux developers out there (-and there are many) can contribute to the codebase. Often, this means fixes are available quicker than distros maintained by companies (-such as Ubuntu and Fedora) - which generally only release updates twice a year.
