Spanish vocab and phrases for beginners
In lesson 5 we will learn some very basic Spanish vocab and expressions used for greeting people. Try to focus on the pronunciation. Also realize how regular the language is, and how every word is read exactly as it is written (or how it is written exactly as it is read). That is one of the beauties of the Spanish language.
Hola - Hello
Chau - Goodbye
Buen día - Good morning
Buenas tardes - Good afternoon
Buenas noches - Good evening / Good night
Hasta luego - Until later
Hasta mañana - Until tomorrow
Por favor - Please
Gracias - Thank you
De nada - You are welcome
¿Cómo está usted? - How are you? (formal)
¿Cómo estás (tú)? - How are you? (informal)
Muy bien, gracias - Very well, thank you.
¿Y tú? - And you? (informal)
¿Y usted? - And you? (formal)
If you are interested in learning a lot more useful Spanish vocab, I recommend you take a look at my Spanish alphabet series of vocabulary lessons. In this series I dedicate one full class to teach the most common and useful words by categories that begin with each letter of the Spanish alphabet.
There you will learn:
Spanish given-names for men and women
names of fruits and vegetables
names of animals
adjectives, adverbs
false cognates between English and Spanish (false-friends)
Spanish regular verbs
Spanish irregular verbs
Then I dedicate the next lesson to teach how those irregular verbs are used and conjugated.
This comprehensive series of Spanish vocab lessons begins with lesson Nbr. 152: Words that begin with A.
