فيديو شرح Lesson 34- B1-B2 Intermediate Level English - The Power of "OTHER": Where do we use it? Udemy ضمن كورس اللغة الأنجليزية | مستوى متوسط شرح قناة My English Classes Online / MyECO، الفديو رقم 26 مجانى معتمد اونلاين
Ever wonder what to say when something doesn't quite fit into the usual categories? Or when you want to talk about more than just what you've mentioned? That's where the mighty word "OTHER" comes in handy!
"Other" for Different or Remaining Things
Think of "other" as meaning "different" or "additional." It helps us talk about things that are not the one we just talked about, or the ones that are left.
"I have two apples. One is red, the other is green."
"Some people like coffee, others prefer tea."
"We discussed marketing, but there are other important business functions too, like finance and HR."
"Other" for More Than One (Plural)
When you're talking about more than one additional thing, we use "other" with a plural noun.
"This phone comes in black, but there are other colors available like blue and white."
"He finished his homework, then moved on to his other tasks."
"Other" as a Pronoun (When it stands alone)
Sometimes, "other" can stand by itself, acting like a pronoun, when it's clear what you're referring to.
"Some students arrived early, the others came later."
"I tried two options. One didn't work, so I tried the other."
"Another" vs. "Other" (Quick Tip!)
A quick note: "Another" means "an other" or "one more." Use it for singular things. "Other" is for plural or specific different things.
"Can I have another piece of cake?" (You want one more)
"Do you have any other desserts?" (Are there different kinds of desserts?)
Why "Other" is Important
Using "other" makes your language precise and easy to understand. It helps you:
Categorize: Group similar items.
Compare & Contrast: Show differences.
Expand Ideas: Introduce new concepts or examples.
